ENDO 2022 announces Live Demonstrations from five renowned centers in China, India, Japan, and South Korea
A key feature of ENDO 2022, the World Congress of GI Endoscopy, will be the livestreaming of endoscopic procedures. An important teaching tool, these demonstrations will showcase both basic and advanced procedures performed by highly skilled experts. Planning for the sessions has begun. Dr. Fabian Emura, ENDO 2022 President, says: “For this special occasion, the ENDO 2022 Live Demonstrations will be broadcast from five different medical centers located in the Asia-Pacific region: apart from two excellent venues in our host country, Japan, we will also cooperate with centers in China, India, and South Korea. The World Endoscopy Organization and the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society are very proud to welcome these outstanding centers as part of the ENDO 2022 scientific program, and we would like to thank their boards for making this possible. The experience and leadership of these institutions in the field of endoscopy will guarantee a memorable learning experience for ENDO 2022 attendees.”
The success of this enterprise relies on a strong expert organizing team. Professor Hisao Tajiri, ENDO 2022 Co-President, salutes the huge contribution of Professor Shigetaka Yoshinaga, from the National Cancer Center Hospital in Tokyo and a member of the ENDO 2022 Scientific Committee, will be coordinating this scientific activity. Professor Tomohiko Moriyama, Director of the Telemedicine Development Center of Asia, TEMDEC will be the co-director. Professor Moriyama and the TEMDEC technical support team will play a key role in ensuring the best possible quality of the live demonstration transmission from all the centers during the two full days of planned sessions, Friday May 13 and Saturday May 14, 2022.

Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea

The Asan Medical Center, established in 1989, is the parent hospital of eight hospitals in the ASAN Foundation. With a total of 2715 beds, the Asan Medical Center is the largest medical institution in South Korea, performing nearly 67 000 highly sophisticated surgeries per year.
The Asan Medical Center is committed to clinical research in basic medicine and is at the forefront of cutting-edge developments that combine medicine and engineering.
The first South Korean clinic for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis was established by the Asan Medical center in 1993, and the first center for inflammatory bowel disease in 2012.
Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, India
ENDO 2022 Live Demonstration Director: Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, AIG Chairman, WEO Past President, and Chair, ENDO 2022 Steering Committee
The Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), founded in 1994, is one of the largest referral centers in Asia for therapeutic endoscopy. As a single-specialty hospital encompassing all gastroenterology subspecialties, it is claimed that the Institute carries out the largest number of ERCP procedures in the world. In addition, the AIG is one of the few centers in India where endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), endoscopic sewing, capsule endoscopy, and extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) are performed.
Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital, Beijing, China
ENDO 2022 Live Demonstration Director: Professor Linghu Enqiang, Director of the Department of Gastroenterology, Chinese PLA General Hospital, President of the Chinese Society of Digestive Endoscopy, and Chair, WEO Superminimally Invasive Interventions Ad Hoc Committee
The Chinese PLA General Hospital, opened in 1953, is a world-class military hospital with 125 departments, 10 000 beds, and an annual volume of more than 3.8 million outpatient visits. As one of the largest endoscopy centers in the world, all types of endoscopic therapeutic procedures are performed, such as ERCP, therapeutic EUS, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER), and others. Under the leadership of Professor Linghu Enqiang, a series of novel endoscopic procedures have been developed at the Chinese PLA General Hospital that have then spread to the rest of China and the world. These include, among others, the first animal case of STER for upper GI submucosal tumor, the first case of endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection (ESTD) for early esophageal cancer, and the first case of EUS-guided lauromacrogol ablation for treating pancreatic cystic neoplasms. In addition, a whole system of theories related to endoscopy and minimally invasive therapeutic approaches have been proposed by Professor Linghu Enqiang, including the digestive endoscopic tunneling technique and superminimally invasive interventions.
Japanese Red Cross Kyoto Daini Hospital, Kyoto, Japan
ENDO 2022 Live Demonstration Director: Professor Koji Uno, Director, Gastroenterology Department, Japanese Red Cross Kyoto Daini Hospital
The Japanese Red Cross Kyoto Daini Hospital, founded in 1945, has over 30 departments and a total of 667 beds. The hospital’s critical care center was the first in Kyoto, opened in 1978. The Endoscopy Center at the Hospital is accredited by the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES), and it was one of the first institutions to introduce narrow-band imaging (NBI) for diagnosing early-stage cancer.
Kobe University Hospital, Kobe, Japan
ENDO 2022 Live Demonstration Directors: Professor Yuzo Kodama and Associate Professor Takashi Toyonaga, Department of Gastroenterology, Kobe University Hospital
Kobe University Hospital, established in 1869 as Kobe Hospital, was the first institution to provide medical services in the Kobe area. Consisting of 36 clinical divisions with 934 beds, Kobe University Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in Hyogo Prefecture and plays an important role in educating medical doctors and advancing standards of medical care. In 2017, the International Clinical Cancer Research Center (ICCRC) was established, with the aims of promoting advanced treatment for cancer, developing innovative medical devices through medical and engineering collaboration, and interacting with international medical institutions.
